We want to see You at the Stash house

Whether you are a lifelong sewer with a lovely home studio and stash or a student who has never held a needle and thread but is desperate not to lose their one-wear-away-from-succumbing-to-chub-rub favorite jeans, we have space for you at the Stash House.

No Membership? No problem!

A common misconception about the Stash House is that only members can make use of the space. While there are big perks to being a Stash House member, ALL are welcome to enjoy and use the community-provided tools found at The Stash House.

That’s all fine on paper… or screen…but I get nervous when I don’t understand my relationship with a space. What will be expected of me? Are there surprise costs? What is the overall vibe? This may help:

How to be at the Stash House

  • A workroom guest pass gives a full day’s access to:

    • Any fellowship sessions

    • Open Studio time

With a flat rate of $15, you are welcome to stay from open to close or for just a couple of hours.

You can also get a guest pass by being a member's guest or volunteering!

Access to specialty equipment is not included in the guest pass.

  • Open Studio is time when you can access Stash House studio space which includes:

    • Domestic sewing machines and sergers

    • Thread, notions etc.

    • Cutting table and tools

    • Projector

    • A tea kettle

    • 2 pretty cute kitties

Open studio is during business hours when no other events are taking place. You can find our calendar here.

  • Fellowship events are themed drop-in sessions at the Stash House and meant to build community through bringing together people and their independent projects around the fellowship theme.

We suggest these to those who are new to the Stash House as they are perfect for getting familiar with where to find tools and the feel of the space.

You will have support from our staff to answer questions and offer advice. You are welcome to drop in and hangout with off-theme projects but the host may have less advice to offer :)

$10 drop-in/$5 for students, free for members

  • These are paid learning sessions taught by a Swanson's Fabrics staff member or a guest instructor.

Supplies and tools are always included unless otherwise noted in the class description though you are welcome to bring your own machine if you have one.

Ranging from $30-$200 depending on length of the class and complexity of the project. Member's receive a discount based on membership level.

  • In truth we are still refining this system.

The most constant state of affairs with our volunteer program is that if you are willing to come in and help sort through our donations room - just come anytime during our regular business hours :)

That said if it is your first time helping out around The Stash House it might be best to pop in for a little while on a Wednesday or Thursday to get your sea legs.

We have big dreams for this system so check back for updates!

*A perk to volunteering is that if you find something you love we are going to tell you to take it!

  • We are relaxed bunch! Come for as long as you want, look around, grab a book and read in the living room.

If you have questions that aren't answered here email us, call us, drop in and ask us. We want you to empower you to create and feel comfortable while doing it!

  • You can reserve the space to host your own event, or have a private version of one of ours; really, the sky is the limit!

Fill out a form of interest here.

  • We love to offer new events to our community, from lectures to workshops; let us know what you'd like to share!

You can tell us all about it here.

Swanson’s Fabrics expanded into the Stash House, partly because, as Kathryn often says, “No one used to sew alone,” it was a community effort. In learning from grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and friendly neighbor ladies to sewing circles, sewing was and is regularly done with others. This encapsulates another reason Kathryn conceived of the Stash House: ensuring the knowledge isn’t lost.

Why? Because, knowing how to sew is empowering, from putting on a button and getting the most out of what you already own to dressing head to toe in your creations that fit your just-right body. Now, maybe more than ever, it’s crucial that we remember resistance can be birthed through creation.

See you at the Stash House.
